Damascus Arms Deal In Damascus Knives,Damascus Blank Blades,Sword,Decorative Daggers

There are several myths and secrets surrounding the making of Damascus steel, so named because the original blades were produced in Damascus, the capital of Syria.
With of the fall of Damascus to Timur in the 15th century many of the talented swordsmiths moved to Samarkand and it was then that India and Persia became famous for the distinctive watered blades.

The techniques used for creating the steel differ but generally involve hot crumbled iron being placed in a furnace and heated for several hours. Carbon, in the form of wood and bamboo, is added to the iron which is recarbonised. It is then allowed to cool very slowly which results in the crystaline effect in the steel that shows as the intricate patterns of dark and light in the blades.

The metal produced is extremely hard to ensure a sharp edge yet sufficiently flexible to withstand use in battle!

Damascus Arms - workshop

The technique used to create original Damascus steel is now a matter of historical conjecture. Many raw materials, and the metalsmiths recipes are no longer available. The general term "Damascus" refers to metal with a visible grain pattern, sometimes with a texture.
Modern Damascus is a lamination of folded steels selected with cosmetic qualities, with grinding and polishing specifically to expose the layers. True Damascus patterns are formed when carbon trace elements form visible swirls in the steel mix, that change properties when work hardened (forged).
